Loopy Godinez wasn’t leaving it in the hands of the judges this time.
Six months after losing a close split decision to Jessica Penne in her UFC debut, Godinez scored a dominant win over newcomer Silvana Gomez Juarez on the UFC Vegas 39 prelims Saturday at UFC APEX.
Godinez took over with her wrestling from the opening bell, keeping Juarez on the back foot with constant pressure before getting the fight to the ground, where she really went to work. With Juarez turning to her belly, Godinez slapped on an armbar that forced the tapout at the 4:14 mark of the opening round.

For Godinez, this was her first UFC victory and the first submission win of her career. The former LFA strawweight champion is now 6-1 as a pro.
Juarez sees a three-fight win streak snapped in her return to 115 pounds. A former KSW flyweight title challenger, Juarez’s record falls to 10-3.
She took the fight on four days’ notice as a replacement for Sam Hughes, who withdrew after one of her coaches tested positive for COVID-19.
