Mackenzie Dern and Marina Rodriguez made weight for Saturday’s main event, but the official weigh-ins were not without their share of drama.
At Friday morning’s weigh-ins, Dern and Rodriguez both successfully hit the mark for the UFC Vegas 39 strawweight main event with Dern coming in at 114.5 pounds and Rodriguez at 115 pounds.
However, co-main event welterweight Jared Gooden came in three pounds over the limit for his fight with Randy Brown, and a middleweight bout between Phil Hawes and Deron Winn was removed from the main card after Winn was forced to withdraw due to non-weight related health issues.
The UFC initially announced that welterweight veteran Chris Curtis would be stepping in on a day’s notice as a replacement for Winn. Curtis actually successfully weighed in Friday morning at 184.5 pounds, but it was later reported that Hawes declined the replacement bout.
Gooden’s bout with Brown will proceed at a catchweight with Gooden forfeiting 20 percent of his purse as penalty, per the UFC.
