Arlene Blencowe and Pam Sorenson have the chance to boost themselves into the featherweight title picture this November.
Officials told MMA Fighting that Blencowe (14-8) and Sorenson (9-3) will fight in a featherweight bout at Bellator 271 on Nov. 12 at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
A former Invicta FC featherweight champion, Sorenson made a successful Bellator debut this past August when she defeated Roberta Samad by split decision. Sorenson has won two straight fights and four of her past five. Should she get past Blencowe, “Bam” could be a fresh matchup for Cris Cyborg, who defends her Bellator title against Sinead Kavanagh at Bellator 271.
Blencowe has already fought Cyborg, losing by second-round submission at Bellator 249. In her next bout, Blencowe rebounded with a third-round TKO of Dayana Silva. If Blencowe works her way back to a title shot, it will be the third of her Bellator career.
Also waiting in the wings is Cat Zingano. The former UFC bantamweight contender is 2-0 in Bellator’s featherweight division since debuting with the promotion last September.
Zingano recently said on Twitter that her and Cyborg have mutual interest in a fight, but “the time isn’t right yet.”
I called out @criscyborg , she called me out too. It makes sense and clearly all of us want it, but the time isn’t right yet. I’m excited to see what @sineadkavanagh0 brings though for reals. @BellatorMMA
