This weekend’s UFC fight card has lost a middleweight bout.
Multiple people with knowledge of the promotion’s plans confirmed to MMA Fighting that the UFC Vegas 39 bout between Jamie Pickett and Laureano Staropoli has been postponed after Pickett’s coach tested positive for COVID-19 upon arrival to Las Vegas on Tuesday. AgFight was first to report Pickett would not compete on the card.
Subsequently, the 185-pound matchup will now take place at UFC Vegas 41 on Oct. 23, which was first reported by MMA Junkie.
After earning a contract on Dana White’s Contender Series in August 2020, Pickett looks for his first octagon victory. “The Night Wolf” lost a unanimous decision to follow DWCS contract winner Tafon Nchukwi and then stopped in the first round by Jordan Wright at UFC 262 in May.
Staropoli will look to get back on track as well, entering the fight with three consecutive losses to Muslim Salikhov, Roman Dolidze and Tim Means.
UFC Vegas 41 will be headlined by a pivotal middleweight contest between Paulo Costa and Marvin Vettori.
