The UFC’s final pay-per-view event of 2021 has taken a hit.

On Tuesday, Maycee Barber posted to her Instagram stories that scheduled UFC 269 opponent Montana De La Rosa was out of their fight and subsequently called out Roxanne Modafferi for a rematch. MMA Fighting confirmed with sources close to the situation that De La Rosa has suffered an undisclosed injury and will not compete on Dec. 11 in Las Vegas.

The injury is not believed to be severe and the hope is that the UFC can reschedule the matchup for a later date, a source told MMA Fighting on Tuesday night.

De La Rosa is coming off of an impressive performance in her most recent bout, picking up her first stoppage via strikes of her octagon career against Ariane Lipski in June at UFC Vegas 28. The 26-year-old will also be making her third appearance of 2021, which also includes fighting Mayra Bueno Silva to a majority draw at UFC Vegas 20 in February.

Barber snapped a two-fight losing streak in July at UFC Vegas 32 with a controversial split decision win over Miranda Maverick. After winning her first eight fights, “The Future” dropped a unanimous decision to Modafferi at UFC 246 while suffering a torn ACL early in the bout. The 23-year-old returned to action 13 months later at February’s UFC 258 event where she was defeated by Alexa Grasso.
