Glover Teixeira choked out Father Time and won the UFC light heavyweight title at 42, completing an improbable career reinvention with a second-round submission of Jan Blachowicz at UFC 267.
Teixeira dominated Blachowicz on the ground in the first frame and then finished the job with a rear-naked choke at the 3:02 mark of Round 2.
The feel-good moment capped a night of exciting action that included an instant classic between Petr Yan and Cory Sandhagen in the co-feature of Saturday’s pay-per-view at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. Yan captured the interim title with a pitch-perfect performance and set the table for a title unifier against Aljamain Sterling.
