On Friday, Jones took to Twitter to criticize the current rankings and seemingly take shots at UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya. In a recent update to the UFC’s site, Jones fell two spots from the No. 2 position, which was taken by Alexander Volkanovski, and Adesanya rose to the No. 3 position. Jones currently sits at No. 4.
Jones wrote via Twitter, “When your [sic] ranked over Jon Jones on a pound for pound list but know you can’t defend a take down” along with a shrugging emoji.
When your ranked over Jon Jones on a pound for pound list but know you can’t defend a take down ♂️— BONY (@JonnyBones) October 29, 2021
Several tweets followed including one in which Jones suggested, “Just take me off that silly list.” Jones has not competed since a successful light heavyweight championship defense against Dominick Reyes at UFC 247 in February of last year. It was the last title defense for Jones before he vacated his belt seven months later in anticipation of a move to heavyweight and a potential bout with champion Francis Ngannou.
It’s funny seeing people have the satisfaction of being ranked over me when I’m not even competing. Just take me off that silly list— BONY (@JonnyBones) October 29, 2021
Jones also fired back at a Twitter user who suggested that the “game passed you by.”
Lol I guess so, I guess you can have 1/3 of an MMA game and be considered the real deal these days. This is some new shit right here. https://t.co/eq0SkJGCkH— BONY (@JonnyBones) October 29, 2021
“I guess so,” Jones wrote. “I guess you can have 1⁄3 of an MMA game and be considered the real deal these days. This is some new sh*t right here.”
Jones also tweeted and deleted the following:
When you get dudes whos [sic] ass I’ve already kicked, talking about Jon’s first loss is coming soon. I’m over here laughing my ass off
Jones was recently removed from MMA Fighting’s Global Rankings and MMA Fighting’s Pound-for-Pound Rankings in August due to being inactive for 18 months. His pro record stands at 26-1 (1 NC), with his one loss coming by way of disqualification against Matt Hamill in December 2009 in a bout that Jones was dominating.
The three-time UFC champion currently has more serious problems to worry about as he is facing charges of battery domestic violence and tampering with a vehicle after being arrested in Las Vegas for an incident that involved his longtime fiancee. Jones has denied the charges.

I find it rather interesting that I’m not seeing any of these heavyweights talking shit. No comments on my troubles. It’s the fellows who either wouldn’t fight me or who’s ass I’ve already kicked who seem to be the loudest. Funny how that works— BONY (@JonnyBones) October 29, 2021
I absolutely love my fans, I know they are disappointed in me right now but still believe in me. I see those who are indifferent, and then there are those trolls who are usually miserable, hateful, sad and fucked up people who just want someone else to feel like them. https://t.co/WBGeHABt46— BONY (@JonnyBones) October 29, 2021
