Claressa Shields reacts to Jake Paul’s comments following PFL loss: ‘You won’t accomplish 10 percent what I have’

Claressa Shields is keeping her head up after suffering the first pro loss of her combat sports career on Wednesday.

In just her second MMA fight, the world champion boxer in multiple weight classes dropped a split decision to Abigail Montes at the PFL Championship event in Hollywood, Fla. Shields is now 1-1 in her short mixed martial arts career.

Following the loss, YouTuber and undefeated pro boxer Jake Paul took the opportunity to call Shields “a loser,” and anoint Amanda Serrano as the greatest women’s boxer of all-time.

On Thursday, Shields responded to Paul, and to her loss, via her Twitter.

“This is funny,” Shields said when responding to Paul. “You come running when I lose a split decision in a [whole] new world [in] MMA but never even once said, ‘Congrats on all you’ve done and aspire to do.’ Two things that remain Jake, I still fight better than you and you won’t accomplish 10 percent of what I have in boxing or life.

“I lost a split decision, I didn’t get my ass whooped I also improved. All I’m going to do is go back to the drawing board and keep learning. No one said this journey was going to be easy. MMA is new to me, I’m fighting on a world stage after only nine months of training.

“Unlike Jake I fought a real MMA fighter, he has yet to face a real boxer in boxing, but Showtime will still back him though.

“The difference in last night was I’ve never had to fight or even train in a cage so damn slippery. It’s all learning and just different from boxing. I did a lot of things right last night. I just lost a split decision.”

In her MMA debut, Shields picked up a come-from-behind third-round TKO win over Brittney Elkin at PFL 4 in June.

The 26-year-old plans to return to the boxing ring in December and is certainly planning on returning to the PFL cage.

“Watch my next MMA fight, I’ll be on a different level,” Shields said. “Not discouraged at all.”
