A UFC heavyweight title unifier between undisputed champ Francis Ngannou and interim titleholder Ciryl Gane is official for UFC 270 on Jan. 22.
The promotion announced the pay-per-view headliner on Saturday during the main card of UFC Vegas 41, confirming Ngannou vs. Gane to take place at Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. It’s the UFC’s first trip to California since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.
Gane captured the interim title in August with a stoppage win over Derrick Lewis at UFC 265. Lewis originally was scheduled to take on Ngannou, who won the title five months earlier at UFC 260, but the promotion put up an interim title when scheduling conflicts ruled out the undisputed champ.
Also on tap for the pay-per-view event is a flyweight title co-headliner between champ Brandon Moreno and ex-champ Deiveson Figueiredo, who meet for a third time after Moreno captured the belt in June at UFC 263.
Additionally, a pivotal middleweight fight between Jared Cannonier and Derek Brunson will serve on the pay-per-view main card with title implications looming for the winner.
Here is the current UFC 270 card as announced by the promotion on Saturday. The event’s official lineup has not been confirmed.
