The main event features Emelianenko, the legendary former Pride FC champion and one of the greatest heavyweights of all time, against Johnson, the No. 2-ranked heavyweight in Bellator’s own promotional rankings. At age 45, Emelianenko has not fought since his first-round knockout win over Quinton “Rampage” Jackson in December 2019. The Russian icon has won three of his five fights since debuting in the Bellator cage in 2017.
Johnson is hoping to rebound after losing a unanimous decision to Valentin Moldavsky in June for the Bellator interim heavyweight title. Prior to that loss, the 36-year-old UFC veteran racked up three consecutive wins under the Bellator umbrella, highlighted by back-to-back KO/TKO victories over Tyrell Fortune and Matt Mitrione.
