A lightweight matchup is being finalized for the UFC’s February pay-per-view event.

Renato Moicano and Alexander Hernandez are targeted to compete at UFC 271, multiple people with knowledge of the promotion’s plans, including Moicano’s management team KOreps, confirmed to MMA Fighting on Friday.

The event is scheduled to take place Feb. 12 at a location and venue to be announced.

Ag. Fight was first to report the booking.

Moicano made the move to the lightweight division in March 2020 after a 5-3 run at 145 pounds and has won two of three fights in his new weight class. The 32-year-old picked up a 44-second submission win over Damir Hadzovic at UFC on ESPN+ 28 before suffering a first-round KO loss to Rafael Fiziev at UFC 256 in December. Moicano bounced back with a second-round submission win over Jai Herbert at June’s UFC Vegas 30 event.

Hernandez is hoping to have a more active schedule heading into the new year as he looks to build upon the momentum of a vicious opening-round KO win over Mike Breeden at UFC Vegas 38 earlier this month. “The Great” also capped off 2020 with a first-round KO win, this time over Chris Gruetzemacher, with a unanimous decision loss to Thiago Moises sandwiched between the two performances.
