Marvin Vettori isn’t going to let Paulo Costa forget the hoops he made him jump through this week.
“The Italian Dream” had to be held back from his UFC Vegas 41 main event counterpart by matchmaker Sean Shelby at Friday’s official weigh-in staredowns, with the bad blood already boiling due to their fight being changed from a middleweight bout to a light heavyweight bout just this week.
“You lost to the f*cking scale,” Vettori said as he was escorted off of the stage.
Originally scheduled as a bout between two middleweight contenders both coming off of UFC title fight losses to champion Israel Adesanya, Costa and Vettori’s teams entered a new stage of negotiations earlier this week when Costa arrived in Las Vegas apparently unable to make the 185-pound limit. New contracts were drawn up and it was agreed that they would now fight at 205 pounds with Costa forfeiting 20 percent of his purse as compensation.
Both fighters successfully hit the light heavyweight mark at Friday’s official weigh-ins.
