Mason Jones is expected to compete this Saturday after all.
Multiple people with knowledge of the situation confirmed to MMA Fighting that Jones (10-1, 1 NC) is targeted to face promotional newcomer David Onama at UFC Vegas 41, which takes place at UFC APEX. MMA DNA first reported the matchup.
Onama replaces Alan Patrick, who was forced to withdraw from a scheduled rematch with Jones for undisclosed reasons following their UFC Vegas 28 bout that ended with an accidental eye poke and a no-contest.
Onama (8-0) will compete for the second time in 15 days after earning a first-round stoppage win at Fighting Alliance Championship in Missouri. The Glory MMA standout has finished seven of his eight victories and will become the first Ugandan fighter in UFC history.
Jones looks for his first octagon victory following the no-contest with Patrick, a fight the former Cage Warriors champion seemed to be comfortably winning before the eye poke. In his octagon debut, Jones lost a hard-fought unanimous decision to Mike Davis at January’s UFC Fight Island event in one of the most exciting bouts of the year.
UFC Vegas 41 will be headlined by a middleweight bout between former title challengers Paulo Costa and Marvin Vettori.
