Chuck Liddell has filed for divorce from his wife following a domestic violence arrest on Monday.

The former UFC light heavyweight champion filed paperwork for “dissolution with minor children” at a courthouse in Los Angeles on Friday. TMZ first reported the news.

Liddell’s request for a divorce from his wife Heidi comes just days after he was arrested and later released on $20,000 bond following a domestic violence incident at the couple’s home.

Both parties were actually cited but Liddell was taken into custody after he claims he was actually the victim in the incident but offered to take his wife’s place so she could stay home with their minor child.

“I was the victim of the incident last night at our family home, as details of the case will reveal” Liddell said in his statement. “The deputies informed me that my wife would be arrested as I did not respond to her assault while I sustained bruising and lacerations. I volunteered to go in her place.

“This was one of the many times I have tried to shield a family mental health issue from the public purview. It has become painfully apparent that this cannot continue, as our private life has now reached a public breaking point.”

Liddell and his wife have been together for over a decade after first getting engaged back in 2010. They share two children together.
