Maycee Barber will compete at UFC 269 after all.
Multiple people with knowledge of the promotion’s plans confirmed to MMA Fighting that after an injury scratched originally scheduled opponent Montana De La Rosa, Barber will now face Erin Blanchfield at the promotion’s final PPV event of 2021. Blanchfield announced the booking on an IG Live with MMA Junkie on Tuesday.
Blanchfield, one of the sport’s highly touted prospects, made her long awaited octagon debut at UFC Vegas 37 and picked up a dominant unanimous decision win over Sarah Alpar. “Cold Blooded” has won four straight ahead of the biggest opportunity of her young career.
Barber snapped a two-fight skid in July at UFC Vegas 32 with a controversial split decision win over Miranda Maverick. After winning her first eight fights, “The Future” dropped a unanimous decision to Modafferi at UFC 246, suffering a torn ACL early in the bout. The 23-year-old returned to action 13 months later at UFC 258, and she was defeated by Alexa Grasso.
UFC 269 takes place Dec. 11 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and is headlined by a lightweight title fight between Charles Oliveira and Dustin Poirier. The women’s bantamweight title is also on the line as Amanda Nunes defends against Julianna Pena, while the rivalry between Leon Edwards and Jorge Masvidal will finally be settled in a three-round welterweight bout.
