Jake Matthews takes on one of the UFC’s newest welterweights next.
The UFC announced Tuesday that Matthews (17-5) will fight Jeremiah Wells (9-2-1) at UFC APEX in Las Vegas on Dec. 4. This will be Matthews’ 15th UFC appearance and just the second for Wells.
Matthews recently saw a three-fight win streak snapped at UFC 259, where he lost a unanimous decision to Sean Brady. Prior to that loss, Matthews had scored consecutive decision victories over Diego Sanchez, Emil Meek, and Rostem Akman. His UFC record stands at 9-5.
Wells scored a major upset in his UFC debut as a short-notice replacement for Ramazan Emeev. Stepping in on less than a week’s notice for Emeev, Wells defeated veteran Warlley Alves by second-round knockout. It was the third straight win for Wells, a former Cage Fury Fighting Championships welterweight titleholder.
Also officially announced for Dec. 4 were previously reported bouts featuring Jimmy Crute vs. Jamahal Hill and Brad Riddell vs. Rafael Fiziev.
