A battle between surging lightweights looking to take that next step will take place just before 2021 comes to a close.
Multiple people with knowledge of the promotion’s plans confirmed to MMA Fighting that a matchup between Brad Riddell and Rafael Fiziev is confirmed for the UFC’s event on Dec. 4, which is expected to take place at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas. MMA Junkie was first to report the booking.
Riddell, No. 13 in MMA Fighting’s Global Rankings, has won seven straight, including a 4-0 start to his UFC career. “Quake” is coming off of one of the biggest wins of his career against perennial contender Drew Dober at UFC 263 in June. He also holds promotional wins over Jamie Mullarkey, Magomed Mustafaev and Alex da Silva.
After dropping his octagon debut in April 2019, Fiziev has rattled off four consecutive wins. The No. 15-ranked lightweight most recently competed this past month at UFC 265, picking up a unanimous decision victory over Bobby Green. Prior to that, “Ataman” earned decisions against Alex White and Marc Diakiese, as well as a first-round KO of Renato Moicano at UFC 256 in December.
