The heavyweight slugger said the fight will be contested over five rounds, the standard length for headlining bouts. MMA Fighting confirmed the new headliner with multiple people with knowledge of the promotion’s plans.
Rozenstruik initially was expected to meet Gane at a UFC event planned for March 13 at a location to be determined, but now the fight gets moved up two weeks. The original main event for the Feb. 27 event was a light heavyweight matchup between Dominick Reyes and Jiri Prochazka. On Saturday morning, the former RIZIN champion revealed the bout with the multi-time UFC title challenger has been postponed; a source with knowledge of the shift told MMA Fighting that Reyes was injured.
The fight has been postponed from February 27th, but I’m looking forward to fighting Reyes in the near future, and wish him a quick recovery. @ufc @UFCEurope— Jiri Denisa Prochazka (@jiri_bjp) January 30, 2021
Zápas 27.2.2021 byl sice odložen, ale na zápas s Dominikem se co nejdříve těším. Teď mu přeji brzké uzdravení. pic.twitter.com/63x4pDtGjd
Rozenstruik and Gane are both on the upswing after beating a common opponent: Junior Dos Santos. Rozenstruik faced off with the ex-champ this past August at UFC 252 and picked up a second-round TKO to bounce back from a knockout loss to Francis Ngannou in his previous appearance. Gane fought Dos Santos this past month at UFC 256 and also earned a second-round stoppage.
In experience, Rozenstruik has the edge with 12 bouts. But in resume, Gane has the edge with an undefeated ledger.
