A year off between fights didn’t seem to bother Punahele Soriano as the Contender Series veteran returned with a stunning performance at UFC Fight Island 7 on Saturday.

The Hawaiian was head hunting from the moment he was released from the corner and a series of brutal left hands put opponent Dusko Todorovic on the canvas several times during the opening round. Ultimately it was one of those powerful lefts that dropped Todorovic to the ground and referee Herb Dean saw enough to stop the contest with the end coming at 4:48 in the opening round.

“Not bad for a year off,” Soriano said with a smile on his face following his second win and second finish in the UFC. “That’s exactly the fight I was predicting. I was honestly kind of tired and I was really surprised Herb [Dean] stopped it cause he was right in on my legs but I’m not complaining.”

The time off certainly didn’t slow down Soriano as he was throwing bombs as soon as he was unleashed from the corner. Todorovic did an admirable job avoiding too much damage while showcasing solid head movement but he still had to be wary of Soriano’s incredible finishing power.

With the fighters both swinging heavy leather, Soriano cracked Todorovic with a looping left hand that put the Serbian middleweight down on the mat. As he attempted to recover, Soriano was flurrying with punches in an attempt to get the knockout.

Dodorovic managed to survive but then he ate another devastating left hand straight down the middle that caused his mouthpiece to go flying as he once again tasted the canvas. A brief pause in the action allowed Todorovic to get his mouthpiece back but it didn’t save him from the barrage coming his way on the restart.

Soriano was obviously in kill mode and he came after his opponent with everything in his arsenal until he simply overwhelmed Todorovic with punches as he dropped to the ground for a third time in the first round.

Following his win on the Contender Series and a raucous debut in 2019, Soriano appeared to be a prospect on the rise. While the time off may have stunted his momentum just slightly, Soriano came back with a vengeance on Saturday as he moves to 2-0 in the UFC with a pair of knockouts added to his resume.
