Thiago Moises is out of his lightweight fight with Jalin Turner.
MMA Fighting confirmed with people with knowledge of the situation that Moises has been forced to withdraw from Saturday’s UFC Vegas 9 card due to a positive COVID-19 test. The news was first reported by Combate.
With no replacement available for Turner, UFC Vegas 9 will now proceed with eight fights at UFC APEX in Las Vegas.
American Top Team coaches Katel Kubis and Luciano “Macarrao” dos Santos also tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this week in Las Vegas. They were in attendance to corner Moises.
A source told MMA Fighting that the plan is to reschedule Moises and Turner for an event in November.
This is the second change made to Saturday’s card on fight day. Earlier, Kevin Natividad was forced to withdraw from his main card featherweight bout with Brian Kelleher. Ray Rodriguez, who successfully weighed in as a potential backup on Friday, steps in as Kelleher’s new opponent.
See the updated card below:
Alistair Overeem vs. Augusto Sakai
Ovince Saint Preux vs. Alonzo Menifield
Michel Pereira vs. Zelim Imadaev
Brian Kelleher vs. Ray Rodriguez
Andre Muniz vs. Bartosz Fabinski
Viviane Araujo vs. Montana De La Rosa
