Michelle Waterson and Angela Hill will close the show on Sept. 12.
MMA Fighting confirmed with people with knowledge of the booking that the strawweight contenders have been promoted to the main event of UFC Vegas 10 following the postponement of the originally scheduled Glover Teixeira vs. Thiago Santos headliner. Teixiera tested positive for COVID-19, forcing his withdrawal, and his bout with Santos will now take place on Oct. 3.
Moved up from the co-main event, Waterson and Hill’s three-round fight will now be a five-round affair.
ESPN was first to report the change.
With the promotion, Waterson (17-8) headlines her third UFC show and first since last October, when she fought Joanna Jedrzejczyk in Tampa, Fla. The former UFC champion defeated Waterson by unanimous decision. “The Karate Hottie” is currently on a two-fight skid after dropping a split nod to Claudia Gadelha in her most recent outing at UFC 249.
This will be Hill’s first UFC main event. “Overkill” makes her fourth appearance of 2020 and is also coming off of a recent split decision loss to Gadelha. Prior to that, Hill (12-8) won three straight fights. She is 6-6 in her second run with the UFC.
UFC Vegas 10 takes place at UFC APEX in Las Vegas and airs exclusively on the ESPN+ streaming service.
