After losing his originally scheduled opponent Giga Chikadze, Caceres was set to take on promotional newcomer Kevin Croom at this Saturday night’s event. ESPN’s Marc Raimondi first reported that Croom would not be competing after all for undisclosed reasons and that the UFC was still trying to lock down a replacement.
On Wednesday, they found one in former Contender Series alum Austin Springer, multiple sources confirmed to MMA Fighting.
Springer, who also confirmed the booking via social media early Thursday morning, enters his octagon debut on a three-fight winning streak. The Washington native submitted Chikadze in the third round of their matchup on Dana White’s Contender Series in June 2018 via rear naked choke. The 33-year-old also has shared the cage with current UFC featherweight Julian Erosa, and holds a TKO win over Bellator 145er Toby Misech.
