A key UFC flyweight matchup is in the works for the fall. Cynthia Calvillo and Lauren Murphy have verbally agreed to fight on the upcoming UFC 254 card on Oct 24, multiple people with knowledge of the booking told MMA Fighting.
Calvillo (9-1-1) is coming off a decision win in her flyweight debut over one-time title challenger Jessica Eye in June. Prior to that, the San Jose native picked up several marquee wins at strawweight, including decisions over Cortney Casey and Joanne Calderwood and submissions of Amanda Cooper and Pearl Gonzalez.
Murphy (13-4), a former Invicta FC bantamweight champion, most recently earned a unanimous decision over one-time title challenger Roxanne Modafferi. This performance pushed her current winning streak to three fights, which includes a split decision over Andrea Lee and a TKO of Mara Romero Borella.
While there is officially no word on a location for the event, a lightweight title unification bout between undisputed champ Khabib Nurmagomedov and interim titleholder Justin Gaethje is expected to headline the card.
