UFC on ESPN 14 medical suspensions: Mike Grundy, Peter Sobotta could be out six months after losses

UFC on ESPN 14 was one of the busiest cards in the promotion’s history, but fortunately the majority of fighters that competed on Saturday escaped without major injury.

Of the 30 fighters active in Abu Dhabi—where regulation was handled by the UFC itself—this past weekend, only Peter Sobotta and Mike Grundy are expected to face layoffs of six months or longer. Sobotta suffered a right arm injury in his unanimous decision loss to Alex Oliveira, while Grundy requires clearance from an oral and maxillofacial physician after losing a unanimous decision to Movsar Evloev.

A 16-year MMA veteran who has struggled with injuries in recent years, Sobotta announced his retirement via social media following Saturday’s fight.

Of the middleweight headliners, neither Robert Whittaker nor Darren Till received a suspension of longer than 30 days. Whittaker defeated Till by unanimous decision in the five-round main event.
