Undefeated light heavyweight prospect Christian Edwards is among the names that have been added to the Bellator 243 preliminaries.
Edwards (3-0) faces Ahmed Samir (1-1) in a 210-pound catchweight bout that was among four added to the Aug. 7 show on Wednesday. Also expected to take place on the preliminary card is a lightweight bout between Nainoa Dung (3-1) and Charlie Campbell (1-1), a middleweight bout between Dalton Rosta (2-0) and Mark Gardner (1-1), and a light heavyweight bout between Grant Neal (3-0) and Hamza Salim (5-2).
MMA Fighting confirmed the additions with a Bellator official. KHON was first to report the Dung-Campbell bout, while MMA Junkie was first to report the other aforementioned bookings.
Edwards, 21, made his pro debut at Bellator 224 in July of last year, where he defeated Justin Vargas by TKO in just 54 seconds. He followed that with a 16-second head kick KO of Cesar Bennett at Bellator 233, and then a unanimous decision win over DiMarcco Hutchison at Bellator 239.
Samir makes his Bellator debut. The 35-year-old Egyptian most recently competed in September 2018, losing a unanimous decision to Kevin Sears at a regional show in Atlantic City, N.J.
Dung, 21, looks to bounce back from the first loss of his career, a unanimous decision loss to fellow Hawaiian Zach Zane, while Campbell makes his Bellator debut after going 1-1 in New Jersey’s Ring of Combat promotion.
