Hannah Cifers is wasting no time in 2020.
Nine days after “Shockwave” lost to Mackenzie Dern at UFC on ESPN 9, Cifers agreed to move up to flyweight and face Mariya Agapova on a week’s notice at Saturday’s UFC event in Las Vegas, sources told MMA Fighting. Combate first reported the matchup.
Agapova (8-1) was scheduled to make her debut against Melissa Gatto, but Gatto was one of the four Brazilians pulled from the event due to visa issues and travel restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Agapova is 2-0 with first-round finishes under the Invicta FC banner after being on Dana White’s Contender Series show last July.
Cifers (10-5) will enter the octagon for the third time in 2020 after tapping to Dern in the first round last month and losing via second-round TKO to Angela Hill in January. Cifers is 2-3 in the UFC with both of her wins coming in decisions against Polyana Viana and Jodie Esquibel.
