Gian Villante made the move back up to heavyweight this past weekend, but it could be a while before we see him return to action at all.
The longtime light heavyweight was submitted in the third round of his main card bout with Maurice Greene on Saturday at UFC on ESPN 12. According to suspensions handed down by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, Villante suffered a left hand injury during the fight and will require X-rays and clearance from an orthopedic doctor to avoid a six-month suspension.
Two of Saturday’s winners are also facing potential six-month suspensions. Brendan Allen won a hard-fought three-round decision over newcomer Kyle Daukaus and was diagnosed with a trio of fractures in his left orbital and nose. Allen himself speculated that he’d be out for the remainder of the year, which could turn out to be accurate if he isn’t cleared by an ENT doctor.
Khama Worthy, victorious over Luis Pena by third-round submission, is listed as needing an X-ray on his right ankle and an MRI on his left knee. He requires clearance from an orthopedic doctor or he will be on the shelf until at least Dec. 25.
