Former Invicta FC standout Miranda Maverick has been forced out of her fight against Mara Romero Borella at UFC on ESPN 12 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
UFC officials confirmed the news to MMA Fighting on Wednesday following an initial report from Combate.
According to Maverick, an injury was discovered while doing her pre-fight medicals for the event and she hopes to be cleared in approximately 6 to 8 weeks.
“An unforeseen injury was detected while getting my final medicals done for my UFC debut,” Maverick wrote on Instagram. “As a result I was not cleared for my fight this Saturday. It will be about 6-8 weeks hopefully before I will be cleared to fight.”
As for Borella, a search is underway to attempt to find a replacement to face the Italian flyweight on short notice. At the time of this writing, no opponent has been secured.
UFC on ESPN 12 is headlined by a lightweight showdown between former interim champion Dustin Poirier and top-five ranked contender Dan Hooker.
