Belal Muhammad had to survive a late comeback attempt from Lyman Good to secure his third straight win and now he’s seeking some top 10 competition.

After their fight was scrapped back in April, Muhammad was ready for war on Saturday night as he looked to make his family proud after his father’s store in Chicago was looted just recently.

“We’ve been through a lot but honestly the world’s going through a lot,” Muhammad said following his unanimous decision victory.

“My biggest thing is my toughness and I was able to show it in the third round. I was listening to my corners. I was able to get him down and finish hard on top.”

While Muhammad was in control for the majority of the fight as he used fast footwork and quick combinations to keep Good off guard, he suffered a cut over his eye during an accidental clash of heads towards the end of the second round. As blood began dripping down his face, Muhammad had to be wary of his opponent’s power as Good had been head hunting him all night long.

With the fight slipping away, Good knew he needed something big to happen if he wanted to the win. The opportunity came when Good unloaded a hellacious right hand that spun Muhammad’s head around and put him in serious trouble.

Good plowed ahead in an attempt to get the finish but Muhammad was able to scramble and evade before getting his legs back under him. As the third round was nearing an end, Muhammad turned to his wrestling to put Good on the ground and close out the fight on his back, searching for a rear naked choke.

He didn’t get the finish but Muhammad secured the victory while racking up his third straight win with an impressive 7-1 resume in his past eight fights. Now he’s setting his sights on a particular welterweight contender.

Santiago Ponzinibbio you’ve been out for like 25 years,” Muhammad shouted. ”I don’t know how you’re still in the rankings.”
