A heavyweight fight between Derrick Lewis and Alexey Oleinik is expected to headline the upcoming UFC card on August 8 in the United States.
Multiple sources confirmed to MMA Fighting that verbal agreements are in place for the matchup following an initial report from ESPN.
A former title challenger, Lewis has remained a top heavyweight for several years and he’s recently notched back-to-back wins over Ilir Latifi and Blagoy Ivanov.
The heavy-handed Houston native is 5-2 overall his in past seven fights with his only losses coming to former champions Daniel Cormier and Junior Dos Santos.
As for Oleinik, the Russian grappler is also riding a two-fight win streak including a victory over former heavyweight king Fabricio Werdum in his most recent outing. The 42-year-old veteran has an incredible resume with more than 70 professional fights stretching back to 1996.
Now he’ll headline the upcoming UFC card on Aug. 8 against Lewis with the winner taking a major step forward in the heavyweight division.
