Marvin Vettori had a lot of pent up anger and frustration he was ready to unleash on Saturday night.

After several postponements and fight cancellations, the Italian middleweight finally got his chance to perform at UFC on ESPN 10 and he did not waste any time putting away Karl Roberson with a nasty rear naked choke to get the finish in the opening round.

“I just train so hard. This is my reward,” Vettori said following the win. “I was so hyped up before the fight because this is what I love to do.”

There was a lot of bad blood brewing in the co-main event after Vettori erupted at his opponent a month ago when Roberson failed to make weight and ended up in the hospital, which forced their fight to be scrapped.

This time around, Roberson failed to make weight again but the fight moved forward but Vettori obviously had designs on making him pay.

As soon as the action got started, Vettori had his foot mashed down on the gas pedal as he came after Roberson with strikes before the fighters ended up in a wild grappling exchange. Vettori eventually secured a takedown and from there he just shredded Roberson’s defense as he began working towards a finish.

While he didn’t get a stoppage from strikes after opening up with a huge series of punches on the ground, Vettori quickly transitioned to take the back and lock up the rear naked choke. Once his arms were secured under the chin, Vettori tightened his grip and Roberson was forced to tap out with the end coming at 4:17 in the first round.

After notching his third win in a row, Vettori is determined to draw a ranked opponent in his next fight as he seeks to eventually face middleweight king Israel Adesanya again after they fought to a split decision back in 2018.

“Everybody’s been dodging me,” Vettori said. “I don’t think they can hide anymore. I want climb back to a title shot and get my rematch with Adesanya.”
