UFC on ESPN 10 live blog: Karl Roberson vs. Marvin Vettori

This is the UFC on ESPN 10 live blog for Karl Roberson vs. Marvin Vettori, the middleweight co-headliner for Saturday’s fight card at UFC APEX in Las Vegas.

Roberson and Vettori originally were scheduled to meet at UFC Jacksonville, but a bad weight cut forced Roberson to withdraw. The two nearly came to blows in the host hotel and afterward agreed to rebook the fight.

Round 1: Dan Miragliotta oversees this middleweight grudge match. Roberson connects with a straight left off the bat. They’re standing toe-to-toe from the outset and feinting. Roberson on the advance and lets a few big punches go. Vettori with a nice straight left. Roberson’s high kick glances off Vettori’s head. Tentative start so far for both. Vettori changes levels and Roberson takes the back in the transition, but Vettori turns and moves into a takedown for top position. He’s got Roberson stuffed against the fence in half-guard, working short elbows and punches. Midway point of the round. Roberson moves to stand, and Vettori wraps the head. Front choke prompts Roberson to kick off, and Vettori takes the neck. Roberson kicks off the cage and pushes/falls into a takedown. He isn’t on top long before Vettori gets up and gets his own takedown, and Vettori starts teeing off on top. Roberson is almost completely defensive, and Miragliotta warns for movement. Vettori grabs the neck, then goes back to pounding away. Roberson gives up his back, and Vettori sinks in the rear-naked choke. That’s a wrap.
