A featherweight fight looks to be added to the UFC’s stretch of events on “Fight Island.”
Multiple people with knowledge of the promotion’s plans confirmed to MMA Fighting that a bout between Jared Gordon and Chris Fishgold is in the works for July 15. The event, which will be the second of four in an eight day span, takes place on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi.
Gordon returns to 145-pounds following a five-fight stretch in the UFC’s lightweight division. “Flash” looks to get back in the win column following a first-round knockout defeat at the hands of Charles Oliveira at UFC Sao Paulo in November. Prior to that, the former CFFC featherweight champion defeated Dan Moret at UFC Minneapolis in June 2019.
Fishgold also looks to get back to his winning ways. In his most recent appearance, the Liverpool native was submitted in the second-round by Makwan Amirkhani at UFC Stockholm in June 2019. The former Cage Warriors lightweight champ made his promotional debut in October 2018 and was finished in the first round by Calvin Kattar. In February 2019, the 28-year-old picked up that elusive first octagon win, submitting Daniel Teymur in the second round at UFC Prague.
Currently, the UFC has yet to announce a main event for the July 15 fight card.
