Ian Heinisch vs. Gerald Meerscheart on tap for UFC 250

Esther Lin, MMA Fighting

With UFC 249 marking the promotion’s return to action on Saturday night, the fight card for next month’s UFC 250 fight card is starting to take shape.

Multiple sources confirmed to MMA Fighting that a middleweight bout between Ian Heinisch and Gerald Meerschaert is being targeted for the June 6 pay-per-view event. The location for UFC 250, as of now, is yet to be determined.

News of the booking was first reported by Combate.

After earning a UFC contract on Dana White’s Contender Series in July 2018, Heinisch picked up back-to-back wins over Cezar Ferreira and Antonio Carlos Junior to break into the top-15 at 185-pounds. “The Hurricane” now faces unfamiliar territory as he will enter the June 6 bout on a losing streak for the first time in his career. The former LFA middleweight champion ended his 2019 campaign with consecutive losses to Derek Brunson and Omari Ahkmedov.

For the second straight fight, Meerschaert will get the fight he had hoped for. After bouncing back from a split decision loss to Eryk Anders this past October, “GM3” picked up a third-round submission win over Deron Winn at UFC 248 in March. The 32-year-old Wisconsin native will make his 11th UFC appearance, including his third on a pay-per-view card.

UFC 250 will include a women’s featherweight title fight between Amanda Nunes and Felicia Spencer, while Raphael Assuncao will take on former bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt. Also recently added to the card is a flyweight matchup between Jussier Formiga and Alex Perez.
