Daniel Rodriguez didn’t have to wait long to find a replacement opponent for the injured Kevin Holland.

UFC officials confirmed to MMA Fighting that Rodriguez will now face Gabriel Green this Saturday at UFC on ESPN 9. The event is expected to take place at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas.

MMA Junkie was first to report the booking following an announcement from Green’s management team via their Facebook page Tuesday afternoon.

Rodriguez has won his previous seven fights, including a successful octagon debut. “D-Rod,” who picked up a victory on Dana White’s Contender Series this past July, got a short-notice call to face veteran Tim Means at UFC Rio Rancho. The 33-year-old picked up a second-round submission win and has become a fighter to watch in a loaded welterweight division.

Green makes his UFC debut with an impressive six-fight winning streak, which includes victories under the Bellator and Combate Americas banners. “Gifted” will compete for the first time since August 2018, where he picked up a second-round TKO victory for California regional promotion CXF.

UFC on ESPN 9 is headlined by a welterweight matchup between Tyron Woodley and Gilbert Burns.
