A flyweight battle looks to be heading to the octagon next month.
Multiple people with knowledge of the promotion’s plans have confirmed to MMA Fighting that a fight between Tyson Nam and Ryan Benoit is in the works for the UFC’s June 13 fight card. Currently, the event does not have a location but the promotion is hoping the UFC APEX in Las Vegas will be the home base should COVID-19 restrictions be lifted.
News of the booking was first reported by MMA Junkie.
Nam will look to pick up that elusive first UFC win next month. “The Naminal” dropped back-to-back decisions to Pettis and Kai Kara-France to kick off his UFC career after competing in different promotions around the world, including King of the Cage and World Series of Fighting. The 36-year-old holds finish wins over former Bellator champion Eduardo Dantas and former UFC title challenger Ali Baugatinov.
Benoit will look to get back in the win column following a split-decision loss to Heili Alateng at December’s UFC Busan event. “Baby Face” has flip-flopped wins and losses since making his promotional debut in November 2013. The 30-year-old holds UFC wins over Sergio Pettis, Fredy Serrano and Ashkan Mokhtarian.
Headlining the June 13 event will be a women’s flyweight bout between Cynthia Calvillo and Jessica Eye.
