The UFC’s event on May 30 is starting to pick up some steam.
Multiple people with knowledge of the promotion’s plans confirmed to MMA Fighting that a bantamweight bout between Casey Kenney and Louis Smolka is being targeted for next Saturday’s fight card following an initial report from MMA DNA.
UFC president Dana White is confident the event will take place at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas but nothing has been made official as of yet.
After picking up victories in his first two octagon appearances, Kenney had his six-fight winning streak snapped in February against Merab Dvalishvili at UFC Rio Rancho. The former LFA multi-division champion jumped into the 135-pound rankings following wins over Ray Borg—on less than a week’s notice—and Manny Bermudez as he looks to get back with another short notice opportunity.
Smolka enters the contest victorious in five out of his last six. “Da Last Samurai” returned to the UFC on short notice in November 2018 and submitted Su Madaerji in the first round. Smolka would go on to suffer the same fate against Matt Schnell in his next fight before bouncing back with a first-round finish of Ryan MacDonald at UFC Vancouver this past September.
