Tim Elliott expected to welcome newcomer Brandon Royval at UFC event on May 30

A potential show-stealing flyweight matchup looks to be heading to the octagon for the UFC’s next event.

Multiple people with knowledge of the promotion’s plans have confirmed to MMA Fighting that a fight between Tim Elliott and Brandon Royval is in the works for the UFC’s May 30 fight card. Currently, the event does not have a location but the promotion is hoping the UFC APEX in Las Vegas will be the home base should COVID-19 restrictions be lifted.

Elliott, 32, will look to get back in the win column after dropping back-to-back fights to Deiveson Figueredo and Askar Askarov. The former flyweight title challenger and TUF 24 winner hopes to improve upon his 2-4 record during his second stint in the UFC, which includes a submission win over Mark De La Rosa, and a decision win over Louis Smolka.

Royval will make his promotional debut coming off of back-to-back wins, and victories in five out of his last six. After dropping a unanimous decision to Casey Kenney at LFA 53 in November 2018, “Raw Dawg” submitted Joby Sanchez in the first-round at LFA 65 and capped off his 2019 campaign by capturing the promotion’s flyweight title with the fastest submission in LFA history over Nate Williams in just 23-seconds.

The Factory X product was slated to compete on the upcoming season of Dana White’s Contender Series before getting the call.

In the main event, former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley will take on surging contender Gilbert Burns.

UFC president Dana White told reporters following UFC on ESPN 8 that if the card can’t be held in Las Vegas, they will be looking at Arizona since Gov. Doug Ducey is allowing professional sports to be held in the state as long as it takes place without fans.
