A pair of top-15 flyweights will be bumping up a weight class for an octagon showdown next month.
Multiple sources with knowledge of the promotion’s plans have confirmed to MMA Fighting that a fight between Jordan Espinosa and Mark De La Rosa is in the works for the UFC’s event on June 20. Currently, the event does not have a location, but the promotion is hoping the UFC APEX in Las Vegas will be the home base should COVID-19 restrictions be lifted.
The bout, which was first reported by The Schmozone on Twitter, will take place in the bantamweight division, per sources.
Espinosa looks to get back on track following back-to-back losses to Matt Schnell and Alex Perez. The 30-year-old entered made his promotional debut in March 2019 picking up a unanimous decision win over Eric Shelton after earning a pair of wins on Dana White’s Contender Series.
De La Rosa is also in need of a victory as he enters the bout following three consecutive losses to Perez, Kai Kara-France and Raulian Paiva. “The Bumble Bee” entered the UFC and suffered a short notice second-round submission loss to Tim Elliott at UFC 219 in December 2017. The Fort Worth, Texas native bounced back with his first two wins in the UFC over Elias Garcia and Joby Sanchez.
