A new women’s bantamweight fight is currently in the works with Aspen Ladd in talks to meet Sara McMann at a UFC Fight Night event on June 27.
Multiple sources confirmed the news to MMA Fighting with verbal agreements in place, although no contracts have been issued or signed at this time. MMA Junkie was first to report the matchup.
Ladd was originally scheduled to compete in March in a showdown against Julianna Pena, but that fight fell apart in the weeks leading up to the event. Unfortunately, additional sources told MMA Fighting that Pena is currently injured and unable to compete at this time.
With that option no longer available, Ladd appears to be moving onto a fight against the former UFC title contender, who is also an Olympic silver medalist in wrestling.
McMann returned to action in January following nearly two years away from the sport after giving birth to her second child. The 39-year-old contender picked up a unanimous decision win over Lina Lansberg in her first fight back, and now she’ll look to build on that victory with a fight against Ladd in June.
As of now, the UFC hasn’t officially announced the June 27 card or a main event for the show as the promotion continues to put together a schedule for the remainder of the year while dealing with the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
