A three-round slugfest between Song Yadong and Marlon Vera earned “Fight of the Night” honors at UFC on ESPN 8, according to performance bonuses announced by UFC President Dana White after Saturday’s event.
If a crowd was present at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena, it would have cheered as the featherweights went toe-to-toe over 15 minutes. In the end, Yadong picked up a unanimous decision in a fight that was a lot closer than it appeared on paper. According to MMA Decisions, nine of 17 media outlets that scored the bout awarded the decision to Vera.
In other bonuses, Cortney Casey and Miguel Baeza picked up “Performance of the Night” honors for finishes in their respective bouts. Casey submitted Mara Romero Borella in the first round with an armbar, while Baeza rallied from a first-round flash knockdown to stop Brown 18 seconds into the middle frame of their welterweight bout.
All performance bonus winners took home an additional $50,000.
