UFC 249 medical suspensions: Eight fighters receive potential six-month suspensions

Esther Lin, MMA Fighting

There were a lot of grueling battles at UFC 249 but no fighter faced more than a potential six-month suspension as a result.

On Tuesday, the Florida State Boxing Commission released the full list of medical suspensions stemming from the card this past Saturday night in Jacksonville.

At the top of the card, Tony Ferguson engaged in a brutal back-and-forth war with Justin Gaethje before ultimately succumbing to strikes in the fifth round. Afterwards it was revealed that Ferguson suffered a fractured orbital bone during the fight, which put him into a local hospital briefly before he was released.

Ferguson is currently only facing a mandatory 60-day suspension from the fight, although it’s likely he’ll be out longer while dealing with the facial fracture from the fight.

Jairzinho Rozenstruik will face the same 60-day suspension after he suffered a devastating 20-second knockout courtesy of Francis Ngannou in their heavyweight clash on the UFC 249 main card.

The longest suspensions at 180 days (six months) were handed down to eight total fighters, although all the terms could be shortened with medical clearance from a physician.
