Ray Borg is back at bantamweight.
The one-time flyweight title challenger seeks his third straight win when he meets Ricky Simon (15-3) at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Fla., on May 13. Both fighters confirmed the matchup on social media following an initial report by The Sports Daily.
In Borg’s most recent appearance at UFC Rio Rancho, he picked up a unanimous decision over Rogerio Bontorin. However, Borg (13-4) also came in two pounds heavy for that flyweight bout, marking the fourth time in his UFC career that he’d missed weight.
This past April, Borg vowed he’d retire if he failed to make weight again. He addressed those comments ahead of his fight with Bontorin, writing it was “a subject that currently is not on my mind at the moment.” His UFC record currently stands at 7-4.
Simon is looking to stop a two-fight skid, having lost his last two outings against Rob Font and Urijah Faber. Prior to the Faber fight, he was victorious in his first three UFC appearances.
The May 13 UFC event in Jacksonville is headlined by a light heavyweight bout between Anthony Smith and Glover Teixeira. Broadcast information is still to be announced.
