Gillian Noll is out of a bantamweight tournament at the center of Friday’s Invicta FC Phoenix Series 3, and tourney reserve fighter Serena DeJesus will get her spot.
Invicta FC on Monday announced the switch. DeJesus’ originally scheduled opponent, Florina Moeller, will take on Kelly Clayton on the event’s preliminary card, which streams on UFC Fight Pass in advance of main card bouts on the streaming platform. The event takes place at Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kan.
The Phoenix Series will produce a top contender at bantamweight with a one-night, eight-woman tournament. Quarter-final and semifinal bouts are contested in one-round bouts, while the finals are three-round bouts. Friday’s event is headlined by a bantamweight title fight between undefeated Lisa Verzosa vs. The Ultimate Fighter vet Julija Stoliarenko and will utilize open scoring.
DeJesus is three months removed from her first pro loss in the Invicta cage; she lost a unanimous decision to Taneisha Tennant at Invicta FC 38.
