Jorge Masvidal is fine not trash-talking fighters at American Top Team. He’s just making it clear he has his own definition of a fighter, and that doesn’t include Colby Covington.
This past weekend, American Top Team owner Dan Lambert laid down a “zero tolerance” policy in regards to the verbal battles that’ve been waged among the team’s fighters, including Masvidal and Covington. The former friends and roommates have become bitter enemies who’ve repeatedly voiced their disdain for one another.
The welterweights’ animosity has seemingly grown with their star power. As recently as this past week, Covington hurled insults at Masvidal before the trash talk ban was announced.
Responding directly to the MMA Fighting story about the new policy on social media, Masvidal took the opportunity to drive the hatchet further into his feud with Covington rather than bury it.
Fuck coby. The most fragile most sensitive guy in ufc history. Can’t kick me out cause this rule was for fighters only. Not crotch sniffers that get their jaw broken by other crotch sniffers. @AmericanTopTeam we all know that dude is no fighter. https://t.co/TvmJXpucEz

F*ck coby (sic). The most fragile most sensitive guy in ufc history. Can’t kick me out cause this rule was for fighters only. Not crotch sniffers that get their jaw broken by other crotch sniffers. [American Top Team] we all know that dude is no fighter.
Masvidal declined a follow-up comment via his rep, Abe Kawa. American Top Team owner Dan Lambert also declined comment.
Currently among the top contenders in the UFC’s 170-pound division, neither Masvidal nor Covington have been scheduled to fight. Masvidal has been linked to a title shot against welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, who defended his title this past December in a hard-fought battle against Covington. Since then, Covington has volunteered to fight Tyron Woodley at an ill-fated UFC card in London before turning his attention to a rematch with Usman.
