ONE Championship signs Brazilian lightweight prospect Herbert Batista

Herbert Batista is the newest addition to the ONE Championship lightweight roster, the fighter confirmed to MMA Fighting following a report by Globo Esporte.

A 15-2-1 lightweight form Coari, Amazonas, “Matagal” inked a four-fight deal with the company. He said his promotional debut is not yet set because of the current coronavirus pandemic.

Batista was listed as one of the 10 Brazilian prospects to watch in 2019 by MMA Fighting, going 3-0 with two finishes since then.

“It’s a wonderful feeling,” Batista told MMA Fighting. “I came from Amazonas and earned a contract with one of the biggest promotions in the world. I worked really hard. I’m one of the bets lightweights in Brazil, and thank God, now I’m taking another big step in my career with this contract with such a renowned promotion like ONE.”

Batista is on a 10-fight winning streak with all but two of this victories coming by way of stoppage, including four submissions and four technical knockouts.

“It’s time to work even harder now to get there and put on an excellent job and bring more wins for Brazil, and god willing, bring a belt as well,” he said.
