Friday’s Bellator 241 event will not continue as scheduled.
Bellator President Scott Coker confirmed to MMA Fighting that Friday’s event, which was to take place at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., has been postponed due to growing concerns around the coronavirus. On Thursday, the plan was for the Bellator 241 bouts to be conducted in an empty arena, but officials have now made the decision to move the event to a later date, which is still to be determined.
News of the postponement was first reported by Fightful MMA.
Bellator 241 was set to feature the continuation of the quarterfinals of the Bellator Featherweight World Grand Prix, with 145-pound champion Patricio Freire defending his title against Pedro Carvalho in the main event, and Daniel Weichel facing Emmanuel Sanchez in the co-main event.
We would like to apologize to our athletes and fans, as well as our broadcast partner DAZN, but we feel this is the best decision to be made at this time.
