LAS VEGAS – UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman doesn’t have any reason to believe Jorge Masvidal will price himself out of a fight this summer. But he can see why the surging welterweight dreads it.
“He takes this ‘L,’ now you’re back to this guy you’ve been your whole career,” Usman told MMA Fighting. “You win a couple and then you lose before the big dance. Only in this case, he’s gotten to potentially fighting for the title.”
Usman said he’ll sit back and wait to see what happens as the promotion marks out its summer schedule. Already, the welterweight title matchup has been targeted for UFC 252 on July 11 by none other than UFC President Dana White.
Recent welterweight title challenger Colby Covington has predicted he’ll swoop in to rematch Usman after their barnburner at UFC 245. Usman isn’t committing to any opponent just yet. As long as the promotion gives him a little bit of notice, he’ll be ready to go.
“I’m interested in any fight,” he said. “If I don’t fight, I don’t make money.”
