James Krause entered the weekend not expecting to fight. He’s leaving with an extra $50,000 in his pocket.
After agreeing to step in for Antonio Arroyo to face Trevin Giles in a middleweight bout at UFC 247 one day before the event, Krause battled Giles for three rounds and lost a split decision; however, the efforts of both men resulted in them winning Saturday’s Fight of the Night bonus.
This is Krause’s second Fight of the Night award and the first post-fight bonus of any kind for Giles.
Also receiving $50,000 Performance of the Night bonuses were Mario Bautista and short-notice debutant Khaos Williams.
Bautista handed Miles Johns his first loss, dropping him with a flying knee and finishing with strikes on the ground. This is the second straight outing in which Bautista has earned a bonus after putting on a Fight of the Night-winning performance against Jin Soo Son last July.
Williams, a replacement for Dhiego Lima, spoiled Alex Morono’s Houston homecoming by knocking him out in just 27 seconds. It was the seventh straight win overall for the first-time UFC fighter.
