A featherweight matchup between Chas Skelly and Grant Dawson just might be snake-bitten.
On Thursday, Skelly announced that he is withdrawing from his fight with Dawson that was scheduled to take place at UFC Norfolk on Feb. 29. This is the second time a bout between the two has been canceled as Dawson withdrew from their first meeting, which was originally booked for UFC 246 in January.
According to Skelly, he suffered an injury in training this week that forced him to bow out.
“It kills me to say this, but I took an injury while rolling on Tuesday night, and will no longer be fighting February 29ty in Norfolk, Va.,” Skelly wrote.
Both fighters were looking to stay on the winning path, with Skelly (18-4) having won his lone fight of 2019 against Jordan Griffin, and Dawson (14-1) riding a five-fight win streak that included victories in his first two UFC appearances.
MMA Fighting has reached out to officials to ask whether a new opponent will be sought out to keep Dawson on the card.

It kills me to say this, but I took an injury while rolling on Tuesday night, and will no longer be fighting February 29th in Norfolk, Va. I’ve been preparing for this fight for what seems like 2 whole fight camps. My mind and body were ready to go, but I guess it just wasn’t in the cards this time. I’m not positive what the next step in my career/life, but for now I will focus on getting healthy. (hopefully without surgery) My mind tells me I have a lot of great fight left, but my body fails to see the light at the end of the tunnel, unfortunately.
